A Retreat In Venice By Marmol-Radziner

This compact but exquisite Venice residence was designed and built for architect Leo Marmol (FAIA by his firm) Marmol Radziner as an early exploration into luxury prefabricated homes in the early-2000s, just closed on the last day of 2025 after barely a month on the market (in an all-cash deal) for just under the asking price of $5.5M. Since its beginnings in the late 1980s, Marmol Radziner has been one of L.A.’s most innovative and successful design/build architectural firms; expanding their practice into prefabricated homes of exceptional quality was a logical next step.

In a demonstration of the firm’s commitment to innovation, this first project was executed for one of the founding partners, elevating the whole concept of “manufactured homes” to a new level. They would go on to produce about a dozen of these in various configurations. Constrained by a classically constrained Venice lot, the house is remarkably intimate and inward looking, and the now-mature landscaping reinforces the woodsy, ‘Modernist Cabin’ aspect of the design.
