“Orange Collection” of Bespoke Astin Martins to Hit the Auction Block at Bonhams
Orange is a sacred color. A color of transformation. It’s said to stimulate energy and passion, and bring good luck. It’s Exciting. Distinctive. Certainly bold.
And for as many as eight rare auto buyers, it will undoubtedly symbolize good fortune, fun, and flair.
That’s how many bespoke Aston Martins fashioned inside and out in “the most striking hue of tangerine orange” are being auctioned without reserve by Bonhams at the Zoute Sale in Le Zoute, Belgium on October 8.
“Aston Martin Lagonda Limited received a special commission from a private gentleman for the company’s road going production range of their 2010 models,” said Bonhams in a release. “Each motor car is liveried in a bespoke special-order shade of Orange with matching leather interior. They are to Swiss specifications, effectively delivery mileage and will be offered entirely without reserve. The collection is expected to realize over half a million euros ($529,000).”
The collection includes two more recent James Bond faves, the 5.9-liter, V-12 Aston Martin DBS Volante and DBS Coupe, both of which are expected to fetch between €80,000 – 120,000 ($85,000 – $130,000) at auction.
Rounding out the offering are: the Aston Martin DB9 Volante and DB9 Coupe, estimated at €60,000 – 90,000 ($64,000 – $95,000) apiece; the Aston Martin V12 Vantage Coupe, estimated at €50,000 – 80,000 ($53,000 – $85,000); the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante and V8 Vantage Coupe, estimated at €40,000 – 60,000 ($42,000 – $64,000) each; and the four-door Rapide Sports-Saloon, estimated at €40,000 – 60,000 ($42,000 – $64,000).
Although, Bonhams surmises that the entire lot may go to one fervent collector.
“This is a truly incredible and bespoke offering and I envisage collectors wanting to secure the entire collection with many others trying to win a particular favorite,” said Gregory Tuytens, head of sales for Bonhams Collector Cars. “Whatever the outcome, the new owners will own a unique part of motoring history.”
Bonhams famously sold a collection of late 1980s hunter green Aston Martin V8s in 2005 at Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell, although the cars each featured tan leather upholstery to complement their distinguished green coachwork. This collection’s interiors are festooned with tangerine leather, on the seats, dashboard, center console, doors and much of the trim.
Transformative, indeed!
